Mahmoud Sakr
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (Specialized in the bioengineering applications of biomaterials) at The University of British Columbia/2018-2022
  • Mahmoud’s thesis involved developing and characterizing nanocomposite hydrogels for bone and neural tissue engineering applications. Mahmoud was also funded by Al Alfi Foundation to earn an M.Sc. in Nanotechnology from the AUC (2015-2018), where he worked on developing a non-enzymatic glucose sensor for continuous monitoring systems for diabetic patients using graphene Schottky diodes by using microfabrication techniques
  • Along the road of his Ph.D. program and his brother Motasem’s M.S. degree (also a fellow of the Al Alfi Foundation), they came up with an idea for a startup, and they joined the entrepreneurship program at UBC. Luckily, their idea received huge support and endorsements from professors and business advisors in Canada. They incorporated their startup in Canada and named it “ResearchTube Technologies Inc.”.
  • ResearchTube is the first online platform to summarize research publications into auto-generated short videos using artificial intelligence (AI) without user video-making experience. Their vision is to become the primary outlet of user auto-generated video content on the internet and allow users to auto-generate videos that summarize their documents to make them shareable and easy to understand.
  • In 2021, their venture was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the University of British Columbia with a cash award ($5000) https://fb.watch/4haMs-SkaR/.
  • Mahmoud is also the recipient of the Provost Award for teaching assistants (TA) and tutors from the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus in 2022.
