Since 1904, the family has invested in education, first in their home governorate of Sharqiya, then on a wider national scale.
In 2008, Mr. Moataz Al Alfi, one of Egypt’s most prominent businessmen and philanthropic visionaries, founded Al Alfi Foundation for Human and Social development to bring Al Alfi family’s human development initiatives under one umbrella. The foundation is a celebration and continuation of the family legacy and aims to invest in developing human capital through education and capacity building, particularly among Egyptian scientists, educators, and gifted students in STEM.
Education and entrepreneurship are twin pathways to sustainable economic growth and job creation. Al Alfi Foundation is at the forefront of local and regional initiatives that aim to close the skills and opportunity gaps. The Foundation invests in innovative programs aimed at driving greater equity and enhancing readiness in a world where the pace of change is dizzying. Egyptian youth have the right to a sustainable future and the only way we can possibly guarantee this is by eliminating inequalities and making sure all youth have access to the tools they need to create their own opportunities and advocate for their own futures. This is the goal we use when we design projects and interventions.
Al Alfi Foundation has chosen to focus on human and social development through education and capacity building for Egyptian scientists, educators and gifted students in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education in Egypt. This approach complements the blueprint for Egypt’s development in the next 10 years, the Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS): Egypt Vision 2030 with its focus on the creation of a knowledge-based economy underpinned by world-class scientists, thinkers, and educators.
